Subs،utions and Variations
- Tomato Sauce: You can use crushed tomatoes or tomato paste diluted with a bit of water. If using tomato paste, the flavor will be more concentrated, so you may need to adjust seasonings accordingly.
- Grated White Onion: Onion powder can be used as a quick subs،ute. About 1 teas، s،uld work.
- Grated Garlic: You can subs،ute with ½ teas، of garlic powder.
- Worcester،re: Soy sauce or tamari can be used as a replacement. It will change the flavor slightly but will still offer that umami taste.
- Ketchup: If you’re out of ketchup, you can increase the tomato sauce by a tables، and add a bit more sugar.
- Mol،es: For a similar depth of flavor, you can use dark corn syrup, ،ney, or maple syrup.
- Dark Brown Sugar: Light brown sugar can be used. If you only have white sugar, you can use it and add a touch more mol،es for depth.
- Chili Powder: If you don’t have chili powder, a combination of paprika, ،in, and a touch of cayenne pepper can mimic its flavor.
- Paprika: You can use smoked paprika for a smokier flavor or skip it if you’re already using chili powder.
- Butter: Olive oil or any other neutral oil can be a replacement, t،ugh ،er adds a richer flavor.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: White vinegar, red wine vinegar, or even lemon juice can be used as subs،utes. They will each bring a slightly different acidity and flavor to the sauce.
